Who Voltx Power is
Voltx Power is a licensed UK electricity supplier founded in 2017 and based in Milton Keynes. The company specialises in 100% green electricity supply, sourced through partnerships with UK renewable generators. It serves small and medium-sized businesses in England, with a separate product line for microbusinesses.
Voltx isn’t a household name. It sits in the tier below the Big Five (British Gas, EDF, E.ON, ScottishPower, OVO/SSE) alongside other challenger suppliers like SmartestEnergy, Yu, and Pozitive. The trade-off most businesses weigh up with a Voltx-sized supplier is brand familiarity against the chance of a more competitive price and a more responsive service team.
In early 2025 Voltx secured £1 million in funding from Cynergy Business Finance to expand its green supply offering, which suggests the business is in a growth phase rather than holding station.
What Voltx Power offers
Standard SME tariff
Fixed-term commercial contract for small and medium businesses. Unit rate and standing charge held for the contract period, typically one to three years. 100% green electricity is the default.
Suits: SMEs above the microbusiness threshold
Microbusiness tariff
Dedicated product for the smallest end of the market. Under Ofgem rules a microbusiness uses less than 100,000 kWh of electricity a year, or has fewer than 10 employees and turnover below £2 million.
Suits: Shops, micro-offices, single-site operators
Metering services
Meter Operator, Data Collector, and Data Aggregator services alongside supply. Useful for businesses installing or upgrading meter capacity.
Suits: Businesses installing or upgrading meters
Smart Export Guarantee
If your business has solar panels or other onsite generation, Voltx is one of the SEG payment options for selling surplus electricity back to the grid.
Suits: Businesses with onsite generation
How Voltx Power pricing works
There’s no public Voltx price list. Quotes are built per supply against your annual consumption, distribution region, and the day’s wholesale market.
Voltx prices on the same wholesale and network cost inputs as every other supplier. The difference comes from their margin, their cost of green sourcing, and their operating overhead, which is lighter than a Big Five supplier.
The microbusiness product is priced differently from the standard SME quote. If your business sits at the boundary, it’s worth checking both.
The bit most comparisons miss
A challenger supplier with a £1 million working capital line and a focused product set is a different proposition from a Big Five supplier with a balance sheet.
Voltx is fully Ofgem-licensed and protected by the same Supplier of Last Resort process that covered customers of failed suppliers in 2021 and 2022. If a smaller supplier exits the market, Ofgem appoints another supplier to take on the customers. Your credit balance is protected.
Customer service from a smaller team usually means you get a person on the phone faster. The flip side is a shorter operating history. For most SMEs the trade is favourable. For multi-site portfolios with complex billing it’s worth a closer look.
Understanding Voltx Power contracts
| Fixed-term contract | Standard offer is a fixed-rate commercial contract of one to three years. |
|---|---|
| Microbusiness tariff | Dedicated product line for the smallest businesses with different pricing structure. |
| Out of contract | If the contract isn’t renewed in time, supply rolls onto deemed rates which sit materially higher. |
| Renewal window | The period before contract end when a new price can be locked in. Worth marking 90 days before your end date. |
| Termination notice | A written termination requirement is set on the individual contract. Check the notice period. |
| Smart Export Guarantee | Voltx is one of the SEG payment options for selling surplus electricity back to the grid. |
Switching to or from Voltx Power
Switching to Voltx is a standard supply transfer. No supply interruption, no meter change, no engineer visit. Around 21 working days from contract acceptance to go-live.
Switching away works the same way in reverse. As with any supplier, an outstanding balance can trigger an objection to the transfer.
To include Voltx in a market comparison, we’ll need the business name and address, your MPAN, and your current contract end date.
